Barnaby Druthers Audio Theater Returns to Studio Recording!

On Sunday, 8/20/2023, some members of the cast of Barnaby Druthers returned to Studio B of WAPJ in Torrington to record the latest episode, which was notable as it was the first time audio theater was created in the studio since March 2020.

In the formative years of Nutmeg Junction and Barnaby Druthers, all episodes were created at the radio station. The last time that occurred was March 20th when Barnaby Druthers cast recorded “The Chuzzleby Carbuncle”. When recording at the station was not possible, the team turned to online and individual recording methods to create the program. In honor of the occasion, J. Timothy Quirk wrote the sequel to the “Chuzzleby Carbuncle” and thus, “The Final Carbuncle” episode was created. The episode has call backs, “easter eggs” and references that longtime Druthers listeners will enjoy. These notes will be shared in the episode page when its released next week.

Devon Richtmeyer, who portrays Harper Thorne, visited the station earlier in the week to record her lines, making the episode a full studio episode.

The Nutmeg Junction/Barnaby Druthers audio theater team was honored to be joined by photographer Katina McGrath, whose highly acclaimed work is notably found on the New England Eyes instagram page Her work has been displayed in galleries in northwest Connecticut. The future of recording the Barnaby Druthers program will continue throughout the year under the online method in most cases, however the team has plans to continue visiting the station at least once every month and a half to record the show and, more importantly, to get together and enjoy the camaraderie that comes with being in the same location while bringing our stories to life.
